Beijing Weather: Where Do I Even Begin?
Summer nights in Beijing this year have none of that lovely coolness they used to have, so you can imagine how hot it must be at noon, in the afternoon, and even in the morning. Seriously, I’m almost at my limit. I vaguely remember that a couple of days ago, after work, around nine at night, I think, it was still in the thirties Celsius. Wave after wave of hot wind—it really was unbearable. I just wanted to crawl into a freezer.
Weather this hot reminds me of the winter when I first came to Beijing for an internship. At its coldest, the temperature was in the minus twenties Celsius, and the worst part was the wind. As the saying goes:“It’s not the cold you fear—it’s the wind.”

Seriously, stepping outside felt like being scraped with a knife. My commute was pretty long back then, too: walking -> subway -> bike/bus. Looking back now, I have no idea how I got through it. It felt like no matter how many layers I wore, I was still freezing to death—a bit like the “magic damage” of winter in southern China. Then I think about the weather right now, and wow, what a reversal.
Honestly, the heat would be manageable as long as there were a way to deal with it. But of course, the air conditioner had to start acting up over the last couple of days, making things even worse. When I wake up, even the sheets feel damp. It’s unbearable. Hopefully the rain over the next couple of days will bring these absurd temperatures down a bit.

Next up, let me show off some of my latest gorgeous photos.
