Northern Europe | Norway: The Polar Museum (7)
After a quick meal, we started wandering around central Tromso. Tromso isn’t big, so you can get pretty much everywhere on foot. For places a little farther away, the wait for a bus is short too.
We checked the map, and the Polar Museum stood out, so we decided to have a look there first. We hadn’t walked far before we reached it, standing right by the sea.

Admission was about 90 yuan per person. The museum had information booklets in lots of languages, so you could choose one you were comfortable with, which was pretty convenient.
The museum mainly covers Tromso’s history as a base for Arctic exploration and polar activities. It introduces Arctic expeditions and the hunting of seals, polar bears, and whales, among other activities, and has quite a few specimens on display.
As soon as we entered the exhibition hall, there was a dog looking at us as if it were there to welcome visitors. I’ve got to say, the taxidermy here looks pretty lifelike.

There were also some super cute seals.

And all sorts of models and firearms.

Farther inside, there were all kinds of animal specimens.

A polar bear’s heart.

When we came out of the museum, it was still that same afternoon that just wouldn’t get light.
We kept walking along the sea and came to a square where people were gathered around a fire, chatting.

After leaving the square, we carried on down the street. It really hadn’t gotten light at all. It felt like we were out walking in the middle of the night, and we’d completely lost our sense of time. Then we spotted the library, which was a perfect chance to have a look inside and rest our feet.

Once inside the library, we found plenty of empty seats, so we took two and rested our feet. We couldn’t read pretty much any of the books on the shelves, but at least we could sit down and recover a little, hahaha.
After a short rest, we wandered the streets of Tromso a little longer. It never got light, and our sense of time was completely out of whack by then.

After taking in these street scenes, we were pretty much done exploring Tromso for the day. At around eight in the evening, we headed to the supermarket to pick up supplies for the day. The Arctic shrimp here were a really good price, so we bought some and grabbed some crab sticks too.

Arctic shrimp, crab sticks, and a bowl of instant noodles: that took care of dinner in the polar night.
